THE IYISF TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM
Next session starts January 3, 2014! Deadline to apply is MONDAY, DECEMBER 16th, 2013.
|Profound. Transformative. Inspiring. These are the words graduates use to describe the Advanced Studies/Teacher Training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco.
Our curriculum is inspired, reviewed, and approved by yogachara B.K.S. Iyengar and his family. It offers intensive studies in asana, pranayama, anatomy, physiology, and yoga philosophy. The proven methodology of the incremental study of teaching techniques helps students develop and internalize the key essentials needed to teach professionally and safely.
Founded in 1974, the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco is the only yoga teacher-training program in the United States to have earned all of the following:
200- & 500-Hour Programs
Classes for the next session of our program begin January 3, 2014. Both 200-hour and 500-hour options are available. Both programs provide students with opportunity to study intensively with certified Iyengar teachers. Whether you know you want to teach, or are interested in deepening your understanding of the art, science and philosophy yoga, these programs can help fulfill your dreams.
Our 200-hour program can be completed in one year of continuous study. The program richly informs personal practice, and prepares students to teach in a wide variety of environments. When completed, 200-hour graduates are eligible for Yoga Alliance 200-hour registration. By design, the 200-hour program comprises the first year of the 500-hour program. Students of the 200-hour program are encouraged to continue their studies into the 2nd year or return at a later time to complete the longer program.
Our 500-hour program can be completed in 2 years of continuous study. This program offers additional supportive and intensive instruction intended to prepare students for first-level assessment by the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS). The 2nd year curriculum also includes additional studies in asana, pranayama, physiology and the Bhagavad Gita. When finished, students receive an IYISF diploma, and are eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance at the 500-hour level.
Classes meet one weekend a month year round: Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Additional programming may include one Thursday and several Friday afternoons during the year. Please check the class schedule for date-specific information.
The application deadline for the next session of our program is December 16, 2013. Given the rigorous nature of both programs, we look for candidates with at least 2 years of study with an Iyengar teacher. Those who do not meet this prerequisite will be considered on a case-by-case basis. You may apply online, or download and submit a hardcopy application. Either method requires a $25 non-refundable application fee.
